Review and Approval of the Copyediting Sample

For each copyedit we prepare here at Publication Services, an experienced copyeditor
- Analyzes the manuscript and develops editorial objectives that include the level of copyedit
- Confirms our editorial style and editorial authority references such as dictionary and style manual to be followed
- Starts and maintains a copyeditor's style sheet and word consistency list for the project
- Identifies style elements in the text (chapter number and title, levels of headings)
- Confirms the level of copyediting for the art manuscript or supplied art
- Identifies any special characters used (especially for math-heavy manuscripts)
- Prepares a sample edit for client review and approval
Your approval of our editorial objectives, copyeditor's style sheet, and sample edit is critical before we can continue with our copyedit of your project. Your approval and feedback provide the basis of our copyedit, proofreading, and production. Changes to the editorial objectives and copyeditor's style sheet that come after your approval may result in costly alterations and scheduling delays.
In addition, we would like to confirm the approval process for the review of the copyedited manuscript to ensure mutual understanding of the review process. Please review and confirm the author instructions for author review of copyedited manuscript. One consolidated master file and/or original copy of the copyedited manuscript must be returned to Publication Services following the review of the copyedit. All responses to our copyediting and editorial queries must be incorporated, including any content additions or deletions and any global changes to our stated editing objectives or style sheet. This approved copyedited manuscript will be used in production. Any changes requested to editorial style and content that are submitted to us after the receipt of the approved copyedited manuscript will be treated as editorial or author alterations.
Author Instructions for Author Review of Copyedited Manuscript
It is extremely important that you take the time now to carefully review your copyedited manuscript to ensure that the content is accurate, that the material (manuscript, art, notes, references) is complete, and that all permission work is complete.
The manuscript you review and return to us is the final edit-approved content for your book. This final manuscript will be used throughout the production of pages and final files. Any changes requested following the review and approval of the copyedited manuscript will be considered alterations, and they will be charged accordingly. Changes requested to the editorial styling will be considered editorial alterations, and they will also be charged accordingly. Content updates or copy that is rewritten will be author alterations. Changes made in the proof stages following the approval of the copyedited manuscript add significantly to book production costs, and they may result in scheduling delays.
Careful attention in the review and approval of the copyedited manuscript is critical to efficient and timely production of your book.
